The Taiga, is a fairytale told through photography. Inspired by The Decemberist's 2008 album "The Hazards of Love", the Taiga is a tale drawing from northern European fairytales and classic tragedies. It tells the story of doomed lovers and their struggles against the dark forces of an ancient and mysterious forest.
All photos and handmade costumes by Mae Horak.
"Horak’s approach to this fairy tale through costume and photography complicates the ideas in the images she places before us: if these are archetypes, then they must be faceless and personality-less. But Horak’s artistic talent faced the archetypal love story with fearless creativity as she designed costumes that established the mystical romance in material. "
